John and his brother James were fishermen on Lake Galilee until Jesus called them to follow Him.
John was one of Jesus' three closest friends, together with Peter and James. He is often called "the disciple whom Jesus loved". On Easter morning, John raced Peter to the empty tomb, and won!
John later wrote John's Gospel and three short letters in the Bible, full of the message that "God is love".
