About the story
Deborah was a prophet and judge in Israel. People came to her under a palm tree to ask for help and wise decisions. At that time, the Israelites were being oppressed by a powerful Canaanite king.
God told Deborah to send for Barak and ask him to gather an army. Barak agreed to go if Deborah went with him. Deborah went too, and God gave Israel victory. The people were freed from their enemies, and the land had peace for many years.
Deborah and Barak sang a song to thank God. Deborah's story reminds us that God can give people courage and wisdom to help others. It also shows why we can give thanks when we receive help.
