“She lived under Deborah’s palm tree between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel came up to her for judgement.”
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Deborah was a prophet and judge in Israel. She listened to people and helped them decide what was fair. People came to her beneath a palm tree in the hill country.
One day, a woman and a man came to talk with Deborah. She listened carefully and helped them. Deborah was wise and trusted God to guide her.
Later, Deborah sent for Barak and told him that God wanted him to gather an army. Deborah went with him, and Israel was freed from its enemies. Her story shows how wisdom and courage can help a whole community.
Questions to ask
- What kind of tree is this?
- Why did people come to speak with Deborah?
- How can listening carefully help someone make a fair decision?
