About Dorcas
Dorcas, also called Tabitha, was a follower of Jesus who lived in the coastal town of Joppa. She was known for doing good things and helping people who needed care.
Dorcas made tunics and other clothes for widows in her community. When she became ill and died, her friends were very sad. They washed her and laid her in an upstairs room. They sent two men to nearby Lydda to ask Peter to come quickly.
Peter came to Joppa and went to the room. The widows showed him the clothes Dorcas had made. Peter prayed, then called her by name. Dorcas opened her eyes and sat up. Many people in Joppa heard what happened and believed in the Lord.
