About the story

After teaching beside the lake, Jesus and his disciples got into a boat to cross to the other side. Jesus lay down at the back and fell asleep on a cushion.

A strong wind blew, and waves splashed into the boat. The disciples woke Jesus because they were afraid. Jesus stood and spoke to the wind and water: "Peace! Be still!" The wind stopped, and the sea became calm.

The disciples wondered who Jesus was, since even the wind and waves obeyed him. Their journey began with a peaceful crossing, became frightening, and ended with still water. Jesus was with them in the boat through the storm.
