About the book of John

John was one of Jesus' closest friends, one of the twelve disciples. His book is one of the four Gospels, the books that tell the life of Jesus.

John begins his Gospel at the very beginning of everything: "In the beginning was the Word." He shows us that Jesus is God's Son who came to live among us.

John records Jesus' famous "I am" sayings — I am the bread of life, the light of the world, the good shepherd — and some much-loved stories, like the wedding at Cana, feeding the five thousand and breakfast on the beach. It also contains the best-known verse in the Bible, John 3:16.
