Lazarus lived with his sisters Mary and Martha in Bethany. Jesus loved the three of them and had visited their home. When Lazarus became ill, his sisters sent word to Jesus.

By the time Jesus arrived, Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days. Jesus went to the tomb and called, "Lazarus, come out!" Lazarus came out, and Jesus told the people to untie him.

Many people who saw this believed in Jesus. Lazarus's story is told in the Gospel of John. His sisters welcomed their brother back into their home.
