A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Lazarus became very ill. His sisters, Mary and Martha, sent a message to Jesus. They told him, "Lord, he whom you love is sick." Jesus loved the three siblings and had visited their home before.
When Jesus heard the message, he said that the illness would show God's glory. He did not leave at once. He stayed where he was for two more days, then told his disciples it was time to go to Judea.
The disciples worried because people there had recently wanted to harm Jesus. But Jesus decided to go. By the time he arrived in Bethany, Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days.
Questions to ask
- Who was ill?
- What message did the sisters send?
- How long had Jesus waited before travelling to Bethany?
