The story behind this colouring sheet
The Bible tells us that baby Jesus was laid in a manger — a feeding box for animals. That means He was born in a place where animals lived!
The Bible doesn't tell us exactly which animals were there. But in a Bethlehem stable there may well have been a donkey, an ox, some sheep and perhaps a few chickens.
Think of how quiet and peaceful it might have been, with the animals munching their hay and the baby sleeping softly.
God made every animal, and now the Son of God was sleeping right among them. Jesus came to be close to us, in the most ordinary of places.
Talk about it
- Which animals can you find in the picture? What noises do they make?
- What is a manger used for?
- Why do you think God chose for Jesus to be born in such an ordinary place?
