Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

Jesus often prayed. One day, after he finished praying, a disciple asked him to teach them how to pray. Jesus answered by giving them a prayer they could remember. He taught them to speak to God as their Father and to ask for what they needed each day. He also taught them to ask for forgiveness and help to do what is right. The disciples wanted to learn from Jesus, and he showed them how to pray in simple words. People still say this prayer together today. The story begins with a disciple asking Jesus a question, and Jesus taking time to teach his friends.

Questions to ask

  1. Who was teaching the disciples?
  2. How many disciples are sitting with Jesus in the picture?
  3. What did the disciple ask Jesus to teach them?
