About the story
Jesus' friends wanted to know how to pray, so Jesus taught them a prayer. He said they didn't need lots of fancy words, because God already knows what we need. Instead, they could talk to God as a loving Father in heaven, and honour His holy name.
Jesus taught them to pray for God's kingdom to come, so that everyone on earth would do what God wants, just as they do in heaven. They could ask God for the food they need each day, trusting Him to look after them.
They could also ask God to forgive the wrong things they had done, and to help them forgive other people too. Finally, they could ask God to keep them away from temptation and to protect them from evil. Christians all over the world still pray these words today.
