A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus was passing through Jericho, and a crowd gathered along the road. Zacchaeus lived there and worked as a chief tax collector. He was short, and he could not see over the people.
Zacchaeus ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree because Jesus was going that way. From the branches, he could see the road and wait for Jesus to pass.
When Jesus reached the tree, he looked up and called Zacchaeus by name. Jesus asked him to come down quickly because he planned to stay at his house that day. Zacchaeus climbed down and welcomed Jesus with joy.
Questions to ask
- What kind of tree did Zacchaeus climb?
- Why did Zacchaeus climb the tree?
- What did Jesus ask Zacchaeus to do when he reached the tree?
