“David said to him, “Don’t be afraid, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your father. You will eat bread at my table continually.””
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
David remembered his friend Jonathan. He asked if anyone from Jonathan's family was still alive. A servant told him about Mephibosheth, Jonathan's son.
David sent for Mephibosheth and welcomed him kindly. He gave him land that had belonged to Saul's family and invited him to eat at the king's table. Mephibosheth was surprised that the king cared for him.
David kept his promise to his friend Jonathan. He showed kindness to Mephibosheth and treated him like family.
Questions to ask
- What is set on the table?
- Who is sitting with David?
- Why did David want to show kindness to Mephibosheth?
