Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Abigail heard that David and his men were coming. Her husband Nabal had spoken rudely to them, and David was angry. Abigail quickly gathered food to take to David. She loaded bread, raisins, figs and other food onto donkeys.
Abigail met David on the road. She spoke respectfully and asked him to stop before he did something he would regret. David listened to her wise words and thanked her for keeping him from fighting.
Abigail acted quickly and spoke with wisdom. She helped David choose peace instead of revenge. Her story reminds us that calm words and generous actions can help people resolve a problem.
Questions to ask
- What food can you see in Abigail's basket?
- What did Abigail say to David?
- How can you help calm a disagreement between people?
