Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
David and Jonathan became very close friends. Jonathan was the son of King Saul, and David had become a brave young man in Israel. Jonathan cared about David and wanted to be a loyal friend.
Jonathan gave David his robe. The Bible also says he gave David his clothes and weapons, but the picture shows the robe as a sign of their friendship. Jonathan did not turn against David when his father became angry with him.
A good friend can stay loyal and encourage someone when times are difficult. Jonathan showed kindness to David even when it was not easy. We can thank God for friends who help us do what is right.
Questions to ask
- What is Jonathan giving David?
- How did Jonathan show David that he was his friend?
- What can you do to support a friend during a difficult time?
