Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

A large crowd had stayed with Jesus for three days, and the people had little food. Jesus did not want them to go home hungry. The disciples wondered where they could find enough bread in the quiet place.

They had seven loaves and a few small fish. Jesus asked the people to sit down. He took the food, gave thanks to God, broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to share.

Everyone ate and was satisfied. The disciples collected seven baskets of pieces left over. In this story, Jesus cared that the people needed food and made sure the crowd had enough to eat.

Questions to ask

  1. How many loaves did they have?
  2. How many loaves did Jesus start with?
