Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

When the disciples saw Jesus walking on the water, Peter called out to him. Peter asked Jesus to tell him to come across the water. Jesus said, "Come!"

Peter climbed out of the boat and began walking toward Jesus. Then he noticed the strong wind and became afraid. He began to sink and cried, "Lord, save me!"

Jesus reached out at once and took hold of Peter. They climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. The disciples worshipped Jesus. Peter had trusted Jesus enough to step out of the boat, and Jesus caught him when he needed help.

Questions to ask

  1. Who stepped out of the boat?
  2. What did Peter do when he began to sink?
  3. What does Jesus do when Peter calls for help?
