The story behind this colouring sheet

In a little town called Nazareth there lived a young woman named Mary. She was going to marry a carpenter called Joseph.

One day God sent the angel Gabriel to visit her. "Greetings!" said the angel. "The Lord is with you." Mary was puzzled and a little scared.

"Don't be afraid, Mary," Gabriel said. "God is very pleased with you. You are going to have a baby boy, and you will call him Jesus. He will be called the Son of the Most High, and his kingdom will never end."

This was the most amazing news anyone had ever heard. God's own Son was coming into the world — and Mary had been chosen to be His mother.

Talk about it

  1. What was the name of the angel who visited Mary?
  2. What name did the angel say Mary should give her baby?
  3. The angel said "Don't be afraid." Why do you think God's messengers so often said that?
