The story behind this colouring sheet

Just as God had promised, old Elizabeth had a baby boy! All her neighbours and family were thrilled and came to celebrate with her.

Everyone expected the baby to be named Zechariah, after his father. But Elizabeth said, "No! He is to be called John."

The people were surprised, because no one in the family had that name. So they asked Zechariah, who still could not speak. He asked for a writing tablet and wrote: "His name is John."

At that very moment, Zechariah could speak again — and the first thing he did was praise God! Everyone wondered, "What is this child going to be?" John grew up to tell people to get ready for Jesus.

Talk about it

  1. What was the new baby's name?
  2. How did Zechariah tell everyone the baby's name?
  3. The first thing Zechariah did when he could speak was praise God. What is something good God has done for you?
