“When they had done this, they caught a great multitude of fish, and their net was breaking.”
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus was teaching beside the lake, and a crowd pressed around him. He got into Simon Peter's boat and taught the people from there. When he finished, he told Peter to row into deeper water and let down the nets.
Peter said they had worked all night and caught nothing. Still, he did as Jesus asked. The net filled with so many fish that it began to break. Peter called to his partners in another boat to help.
Both boats filled with fish. Peter was amazed. Jesus told him not to be afraid, because from then on he would catch people. The fishermen brought their boats to shore, left everything and followed Jesus.
Questions to ask
- What did the fishermen catch?
- What happened to the fishing net?
- Why did Peter follow Jesus after seeing the catch?
