Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

The shepherd searched until he found the sheep that had wandered away. He was so glad that he lifted it onto his shoulders and carried it home.

When he arrived, he called his friends and neighbours. He told them to celebrate with him because he had found his lost sheep. The sheep was safe with its shepherd again.

Jesus used this story to teach that God cares when someone turns back to him. The shepherd did not forget the one sheep. He searched for it and rejoiced when it was found.

Questions to ask

  1. What is the shepherd carrying?
  2. Where is the shepherd taking the sheep?
  3. What did the shepherd do when he got home?
