““Which of you men, if you had one hundred sheep and lost one of them, wouldn’t leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that was lost, until he found it?”
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus told a story about a shepherd with one hundred sheep. One sheep wandered away and became lost. The shepherd left the ninety-nine sheep together and went to search for the one that was missing.
He looked until he found it. Then he happily placed the sheep on his shoulders and carried it home. He called his friends and neighbours to celebrate with him.
Jesus said that heaven rejoices when someone who is lost turns back to God. The shepherd cared about every sheep, and he was glad when the lost one was safe again.
Questions to ask
- What animal is lost?
- Who is looking for the sheep?
- Why did the shepherd celebrate when he found it?
