“He called his disciples to himself and said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, this poor widow gave more than all those who are giving into the treasury,”

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus sat near the temple treasury and watched people put in their offerings. Many rich people gave large amounts. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins, worth very little.
Jesus called his disciples over. He told them that the widow had given more than all the others. The rich people had given from what they had plenty of, but the widow had given all she had to live on.
The coins were small, but Jesus noticed the gift and the woman who gave it. The story shows the disciples that an offering is not measured only by its size. Jesus saw how much the widow had shared.
Questions to ask
- How many coins did the widow give?
- What did the widow put into the treasury?
- Why did Jesus say the widow had given more than the rich people?
