Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

Jesus told a story about a father with two sons. The younger son asked his father for his share of the family's money. Then he packed his things and travelled far away.

The younger son spent all his money. When a famine came, he had no food and no place to stay. He found work caring for pigs and felt very hungry.

At last, he remembered his father's home and decided to go back. He planned to tell his father that he was sorry and ask to work for him.

Questions to ask

  1. What is the son carrying?
  2. Where is the younger son going?
  3. Why did the younger son decide to return home?
