About the book of 1 John
First John is a short letter written to encourage Christians. It has long been believed to come from John, one of Jesus' twelve disciples and one of his closest friends.
The letter talks about love more than almost any other book in the Bible. It says simply that "God is love," and that we should love one another because love comes from God.
One of its best-known verses is easy for children to remember: "We love him, because he first loved us." Before we ever did anything, God loved us first.
