About the story
Jesus told many parables to help people understand how to live in God's kingdom. He described a host who filled a banquet table with guests, a gardener who cared for a fig tree and a neighbour who answered a midnight knock. He warned people not to trust in possessions, and taught them to pray persistently and humbly. Other stories pictured a king who praised those who cared for people in need, bridesmaids who prepared for a wedding, servants who used what they were given and workers who received a generous wage. Each story offered a picture of a choice people could make. Together they teach us to trust God, welcome others, use our gifts and show practical kindness.
