Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus told of a man who had a fig tree in his vineyard. For three years he looked for fruit and found none. He wanted to cut the tree down, but the gardener asked for one more year. The gardener would loosen the soil and add manure, then see if the tree produced fruit. The story showed patience and care. The gardener did not give up right away. He offered the tree time and attention to grow. Jesus used this picture to help people think about changing their lives and bearing good fruit. We can remember that people need patience too. With help and practice, we can learn to make better choices.
Questions to ask
- What kind of tree is in the picture?
- What does the gardener do for the tree?
- Why might it help to give someone time and support to grow?
