Memory verse
“On the next day, Moses went into the Tent of the Testimony; and behold, Aaron’s rod for the house of Levi had sprouted, budded, produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds.”
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
The Israelites wondered whom God had chosen to serve as priest. God told Moses to collect a wooden staff from the leader of each tribe. Aaron's name was written on the staff for the tribe of Levi. Moses placed all twelve staffs in the Tent of Testimony.
The next day, Moses brought the staffs out. Aaron's staff had sprouted leaves, opened into blossoms and grown ripe almonds. None of the other staffs had changed. God showed the people that he had chosen Aaron and his family to serve as priests.
Aaron's staff was a sign for the people to remember. It showed that God was guiding them. The dry staff had come to life and produced fruit while it rested in God's tent.
Questions to ask
- What grew on Aaron's staff?
- How many staffs did Moses place in the tent?
- What did God show the people through Aaron's staff?
