Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

Moses sent twelve scouts to explore the land God had promised to give the Israelites. They travelled through the land for forty days and saw rich fields, towns and vineyards.

The scouts cut down a huge cluster of grapes. It was so large that two men carried it on a pole between them. They also brought back figs and pomegranates. The scouts told Moses and the people that the land was full of good things.

The people could see the fruit the scouts had carried home. It showed them that the land was fertile, just as God had promised. Moses and the Israelites heard the scouts' report and learned what the land was like.

Questions to ask

  1. What fruit did the scouts bring back?
  2. How did the two men carry the large bunch of grapes?
  3. What did the fruit show the Israelites about the land?
