A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Moses had led the Israelites for many years, but now he had died. Joshua had been Moses' helper and was chosen to lead the people into the land God had promised them. It was a big task, and Joshua might have felt unsure about what lay ahead.
God spoke to Joshua and told him to be strong and courageous. God said Joshua should carefully follow the law given through Moses and keep it in his thoughts day and night. God promised to be with Joshua wherever he went.
Joshua prepared to lead the Israelites across the Jordan River. He told the people to get ready for their journey. The people promised to follow him, just as they had followed Moses. Joshua trusted God's promise and began to lead the people toward the river and the new land.
Questions to ask
- Who was chosen to lead the Israelites after Moses?
- What did God tell Joshua to be?
- What promise did God give Joshua as he prepared to lead the people?
