About the story
After Moses died, God chose Joshua to lead the Israelites. God told Joshua to be strong and courageous and promised to be with him. Joshua sent two spies to Jericho, where Rahab hid them and helped them leave safely.
When the Israelites reached the Jordan River, the priests carried the ark into the water. The river stopped flowing, and the people crossed on dry ground. They took twelve stones from the river to remember what God had done.
At Jericho, Joshua and the people followed God's instructions. They marched around the city once each day for six days. On the seventh day they marched around it seven times, and the priests blew their trumpets. The people shouted, and the wall fell. Later Joshua prayed during a battle, and the sun stayed in the sky for a long time. The Israelites remembered that God had helped them.
