A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jericho was a strong city with a wall around it. God told Joshua how the Israelites should march around the city. The soldiers were to go ahead of the priests who carried the ark of the covenant. Seven priests would carry trumpets made from rams' horns.
For six days the people marched around Jericho once each day. The priests blew their trumpets, but the people were told to stay quiet. On the seventh day they marched around the city seven times. The priests blew their horns as they walked.
Joshua told the people to shout when they heard the long trumpet blast. God had promised to give them the city. The Israelites followed the instructions and waited for the right moment. Everyone watched the wall as they walked. Soon the people would shout together, and the wall would fall down.
Questions to ask
