Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

Daniel and three friends were taken from Judah to Babylon. The king's helper offered them rich food and wine from the king's table. Daniel wanted to honour God, so he asked if they could have vegetables and water instead.

The helper worried that they might become weak. Daniel asked him to try the new food for ten days. Daniel and his friends ate vegetables and drank water. After the test, they looked healthy and strong.

Daniel and his friends chose to follow what they believed was right. They asked respectfully and trusted God to help them. We can learn from their courage and from the way they spoke kindly to the king's helper.

Questions to ask

  1. What food is in the bowl?
  2. What did Daniel ask the helper for?
  3. How did Daniel show respect while asking to eat different food?
