Memory verse
“When Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban, his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mother’s brother, Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.”
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jacob travelled to the land where his mother's family lived. He came to a well in a field, where shepherds had gathered with their sheep. A large stone covered the well's opening. Jacob asked them about his uncle Laban and learned that Rachel, Laban's daughter, was coming with the flock. When Rachel arrived, Jacob moved the stone from the well and helped give water to her sheep. He told her that he was Rebekah's son. Rachel hurried to tell her father the news. Laban welcomed Jacob into his home. Jacob had travelled a long way, and now he had found his relatives. At the well, he met Rachel and began a new part of his life.
Questions to ask
- What animal did Rachel bring to the well?
- What did Jacob move away from the well?
- Who was Rachel's father, and how was he related to Jacob?
