Memory verse

“Esau ran to meet him, embraced him, fell on his neck, kissed him, and they wept.”
Genesis 33:4 · WEBBE

Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

After many years away, Jacob travelled home with his family and flocks. He knew he would soon meet Esau again, and he was worried about how his brother would receive him. As Esau came near, Jacob went forward to meet him. Esau ran to Jacob, embraced him, and kissed him. The brothers wept together. Jacob introduced Esau to his family, and they spoke peacefully. Esau offered to travel alongside Jacob, but Jacob continued at a slower pace with the children and animals. Their meeting was an important change after years apart. The two brothers were together again, and Esau welcomed Jacob with a warm embrace.

Questions to ask

  1. Who ran to meet Jacob?
  2. What did the brothers do when they met?
  3. How did Esau welcome Jacob after their years apart?
