Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

Jesus travelled to the River Jordan to see John. John was baptising people there, and Jesus asked John to baptise him too. John knew Jesus was greater than he was and felt unsure, but Jesus told him it was right to do this.

John baptised Jesus in the river. When Jesus came up out of the water, the sky opened. God's Spirit came down like a dove and rested on Jesus.

A voice from heaven said that Jesus was God's beloved Son, and that God was pleased with him. This moment showed the people that Jesus was the one God had promised. John had been helping everyone get ready, and now he saw Jesus begin his work.

Questions to ask

  1. Who baptised Jesus?
  2. What came down from the sky like a dove?
  3. What did the voice from heaven say about Jesus?
