“He arose, and immediately took up the mat and went out in front of them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!””
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus was teaching in a crowded house when friends lowered a man who could not walk through the roof. Jesus first told the man that his sins were forgiven. Some teachers wondered who could forgive sins.
Jesus asked whether it was easier to say "Your sins are forgiven" or "Get up, pick up your mat and walk." Then he told the man to rise, take his mat and go home.
The man stood up at once, picked up the mat and walked out in front of everyone. The crowd was amazed and praised God. They had never seen anything like it.
Questions to ask
- What did Jesus tell the man to pick up?
- What did Jesus tell the man to carry?
- What did the people do when the man stood up and walked?
