“And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up, saying, “Stand up quickly!” His chains fell off his hands.”

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
King Herod put Peter in prison because he wanted to please some people who were against the church. Peter was watched by four groups of soldiers, but the believers kept praying for him.
One night Peter was sleeping between two guards, fastened with chains. An angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the cell. The angel woke Peter and told him to get up. The chains fell from Peter's hands. The angel told him to put on his clothes and follow.
Peter thought he might be seeing a vision, but he followed the angel past the guards and through the iron gate. The gate opened by itself, and they walked along one street. Then the angel left him. Peter realized that God had sent help and freed him from Herod's hand. He went to the house where many friends were gathered and praying.
