Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

A widow came to Elisha because she had debts and feared her sons would be taken away to work for the man she owed. Elisha asked what she had at home. She had only a small jar of oil. He told her to borrow empty jars from her neighbours and close the door with her sons. She poured from her little jar, and the oil kept flowing until every jar was full. Then Elisha told her to sell the oil and pay her debt. The widow and her sons gathered all the jars they could find. The small amount of oil filled them one by one, just as Elisha had said.

Questions to ask

  1. What was in the widow's small jar?
  2. Who helped her bring empty jars?
  3. What did Elisha tell the widow to do with the oil?
