Memory verse
“He who was dead sat up and began to speak. Then he gave him to his mother.”
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus came to the town of Nain with his disciples and a crowd. At the gate they met a funeral procession. A widow's only son had died, and many neighbours were walking with her.
Jesus saw the mother and told her not to cry. He came near and touched the bier. The people carrying it stopped. Jesus spoke to the young man, and he sat up and began to speak.
Jesus gave him back to his mother. The people were filled with wonder and praised God. They said that a great prophet had come among them and that God had visited his people.
Questions to ask
- Who was walking with the mother?
- What did the young man do when Jesus spoke?
- Why was this especially important for the widow?
