Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
An angel told Philip to take the road from Jerusalem toward Gaza. On the way, Philip met an official from Ethiopia who was returning home in his chariot. The man worked for Candace, the queen, and had been to Jerusalem to worship.
The official was reading from the prophet Isaiah. The Holy Spirit told Philip to go near the chariot. Philip heard the man reading and asked if he understood. The man invited Philip to sit beside him and explain the passage.
Philip began with those words of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. As they travelled, they came to some water. The official asked what could stop him from being baptised. Philip baptised him there. Afterward, the Spirit took Philip away, and the official continued home rejoicing. He had heard about Jesus and believed.
Questions to ask
- What kind of vehicle was the official riding in?
- Who explained the Scripture to the official?
- Why did the official ask Philip to baptise him?
