Read the story together

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.

Jesus went to Jerusalem and visited a pool called Bethesda. Many people who were sick or could not walk stayed near the pool. One man there had been unable to walk for thirty-eight years.

Jesus asked him if he wanted to be made well. The man explained that he had no one to help him into the pool. Jesus told him, "Arise, take up your mat, and walk."

At once the man was healed. He picked up his mat and walked. It was the Sabbath, so some leaders questioned him about carrying it. The man told them that the person who healed him had said to pick it up and walk.

Questions to ask

  1. Where was the man sitting?
  2. How long had the man been unable to walk?
  3. What did Jesus ask the man to do after he was healed?
