Memory verse
“He spoke another parable to them. “The Kingdom of Heaven is like yeast which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until it was all leavened.””
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Jesus compared God's kingdom to yeast that a woman mixed into flour. She worked the yeast through a large amount of dough until all of it had risen. A little yeast changed the whole batch. People in Jesus' time knew how dough grew as it rested. This everyday picture helped them think about the way God's kingdom works. The woman added the yeast, mixed it through the flour and waited for the dough to rise. Later she could shape it into bread. The story gives us a simple kitchen scene to imagine and colour.
Questions to ask
- What is the woman mixing?
- What happens to the dough after the yeast is mixed through it?
- What did the yeast and dough help Jesus describe?
