Memory verse
“Esther said, “If it seems good to the king, let the king and Haman come today to the banquet that I have prepared for him.””
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Esther had gone to the king and he had welcomed her. He asked what she wanted, but Esther did not tell him everything yet. She invited the king and Haman to a meal she had prepared.
At the banquet, the king asked Esther again what she wished to request. He promised to listen. Esther invited the king and Haman to another banquet the next day. She was choosing the right moment to speak about the danger facing her people.
The king and Haman left the meal together. Haman was pleased to have been invited, but he became angry when Mordecai did not bow to him at the gate. Haman went home and told his family about the honour of dining with the king and queen. He did not know what Esther would say at the next banquet. Esther was preparing to tell the king the truth and ask him to help her people.
Questions to ask
- Who sat at the banquet with Esther?
- Whom did Esther invite to come again the next day?
- Why might Esther have chosen to wait until the next banquet to make her request?
