About the story
Esther was a Jewish girl who had lost her parents. Her cousin Mordecai cared for her. When King Xerxes looked for a new queen, Esther was brought to the palace. The king chose her, but she did not tell anyone that she was Jewish.
Later, Mordecai learned that the Jews were in danger because of a wicked plan. He asked Esther to speak to the king. Esther knew she could be punished for entering the king's court without an invitation, so she asked everyone to fast with her first. Then she went to the king, who welcomed her and listened.
Esther invited the king and Haman to two meals. At the second meal, she told the king about the danger facing her people. The king acted, and Mordecai was honoured. Esther helped protect the Jews, and they celebrated with joy.
