A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Esther told King Xerxes that Haman's plan would harm her and her people. The king listened and acted against Haman. But the first order could not simply be taken back, so Esther and Mordecai had more work to do.
The king gave Esther and Mordecai permission to send a new order. It allowed the Jews to gather and protect themselves. Messengers carried the news to the provinces, and Mordecai went out wearing royal blue and white robes with a large gold crown. The people in Susa were glad.
When the day came, the Jews stood together and were kept safe. Their sorrow turned to joy, and they shared food with one another and gave gifts to the poor. Esther and Mordecai helped their people, and the Jews remembered the day with a yearly celebration. The story ends with the people safe and happy.
Questions to ask
