Memory verse
“For if you remain silent now, then relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Who knows if you haven’t come to the kingdom for such a time as this?””

A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Mordecai sent a message to Esther after Haman made a plan against the Jews. He asked her to go to the king and plead for her people. Esther sent back that she had not been called to the king for a month. Going to him without an invitation could cost her life.
Mordecai replied that Esther would not be safe just because she lived in the palace. He said that help for the Jews might come from somewhere else, but Esther and her family could be lost if she stayed silent. He wondered if she had become queen for a time like this.
Esther asked Mordecai to gather the Jews in Susa and fast for three days. She and her attendants would fast too. Then she would go to the king, even if it was against the rule. Esther chose to act bravely for her people. Mordecai did as she asked, and together they prepared for the next step.
Questions to ask
- Who sent a message to Esther?
- How long did Esther ask the Jews to fast?
- What did Mordecai mean when he wondered if Esther became queen for "such a time as this"?
