About the story
Ruth chose to stay with her mother-in-law Naomi and travel with her to Bethlehem. There Ruth gathered leftover grain in a field so they would have food. The field belonged to Boaz, a relative of Naomi's family. Boaz heard how Ruth had cared for Naomi and treated her kindly. He made sure Ruth could gather grain safely and take extra home. Ruth and Boaz later married and had a son named Obed. Naomi held the baby, and the women of Bethlehem celebrated with her. Obed became the grandfather of King David. Ruth had travelled far from her old home, but she became part of Naomi's family and of David's family line.
