“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.”
Read the story together
A short version of the story to read aloud before colouring, with questions to ask afterwards.
Psalm 136 is a song that calls people to thank God. Its first verse gives two reasons: God is good, and his loving kindness lasts forever. The people who sang this psalm remembered God's help through many parts of their history. They gave thanks together, repeating the same words so everyone could join in.
We can use the verse as a reminder to look for goodness in ordinary life. Food, family, friendship and a helping hand are all gifts we can notice. The verse also says God's kindness does not run out when a day goes badly. We can talk to God when we feel happy, worried or sad, and remember that we are loved. Saying thank you together can help us remember these things and share our gratitude with other people.
Questions to ask
- What fruit can you see in a basket?
- Who could you thank for helping you?
- What does it mean that God's loving kindness lasts forever?
