About the story
Elijah was a prophet in Israel during a time of drought. Ravens brought him food beside the brook Cherith, and later God sent him to a widow whose flour and oil did not run out. On Mount Carmel, Elijah repaired an altar and prayed. The people saw fire consume the offering and said that the Lord is God. Afterward, Elijah prayed for rain, and his servant saw a small cloud rising from the sea. Elijah also travelled to Mount Horeb, where he heard a quiet voice after the wind, earthquake and fire. Years later, Elijah went up in a whirlwind while Elisha watched. These stories tell about Elijah's work as a prophet and the people he met.
